Who We Are at Tranquility Clinic

Dr Jacques Esterhuizen MBChB, MRCPsych, FRANZCP, Dip Clin Psych, Cert CAP

During his 17-year tenure as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in the public sector, Jacques has supported a diverse range of children and families. His primary focus has been on adolescents facing severe and high-risk mental health challenges, often requiring immediate care in emergency departments or mental health inpatient units. Jacques has experience in treating complex individual and family mental health concerns, amongst others:  mood disorders, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, psychosis, PTSD, young people with personality vulnerabilities or emerging personality disorders.

Additionally, Jacques served as the Head of Department for Acute Services at CAMHS, where he managed all hospital-based quaternary mental health services.

Our Philosophy

Our practice is built on the belief that every child and teenager deserves compassionate, personalized mental health care that nurtures their strengths and fosters resilience. We recognize that young people experience challenges in unique ways, and we strive to provide a safe, supportive environment where they feel heard, understood, and empowered.

Our Guiding Principles

Holistic Well-being – Mental health is deeply connected to physical health, relationships, and personal development. We take a whole-person approach to care, integrating emotional, social, and medical support.

Strength-Based Approach – Every child has unique abilities and potential. We focus on fostering confidence and building coping strategies rather than just managing symptoms.

Empathy & Inclusion – We celebrate diversity and respect each individual’s identity, background, and experiences. We are committed to creating a judgment-free space where all young people feel valued.

Collaborative Care – We work closely with families, caregivers, educators, and other professionals to create a network of support that respects each young person’s individual needs.

Early Intervention & Prevention – Addressing challenges early can change lives. We prioritize proactive strategies to help children and adolescents navigate life’s difficulties before they become overwhelming.
